Wedding: Hair and Make Up

Wow, it’s been a while!  The week flew by due to the long weekend and all of the sudden the weekend is here again. I guess that’s a good thing!

I spent last weekend upstate trying to finish all the major wedding decisions that really have to be booked now!  I went to about a dozen hotels, bed and breakfasts and potential rehearsal dinner venues. Our wedding weekend is a busy weekend for Saratoga, so we have to be on top of everything.  It’s kind of a stressful, but I am actually really happy to have major things done early, so I have more time for details later.

One major decision is definitely hair and make up.  Of course, I want to look my best, but it’s kind of hard to know exactly what I want.   I decided to try out three places that I had found, but knew relatively little about.  The most popular places upstate, like Make Me Fabulous, are all booked. I am sure there are still great options, but they are a little harder to find!

Here’s a sample of my trials! I’d love your thoughts! Be critical, it’s cool!

You can see my inspiration on my pintrest board.

Hair and Make Up Trail #1:

The first trial went okay.  The salon is super adorable.  My first hair look came out pretty well (above), but my hair was not holding curl, so by the second look, it was a little messy and droopy.  I liked the make up, it was more smokey than I would end up going,  but not bad.

Make Up Trail #2 (no hair). Excuse my unibrow–how embarrassing!

This artist was incredibly talented and fun to work with.  The make up was a little heavy, but I think I could work on that.

Last Hair and Make Up Trail #3

This was actually only half a hair trial. I didn’t have it booked, but we had a little extra time. I took the photo after my hair was down.  I liked this trial.  They make up was really natural, almost what I do myself.

Anyways, I’m just not sure, but I am ready to be done with the decision.

In addition to the wedding planning frenzy, I did mangage to take 2 spinning classes. I can’t pass up a $12 spinning classes at The Revolution. I actually tried it back in August and boy has it caught on!  In August there were only 8 people in the class, this time, both the classes I took were packed and they have opened a second studio!  The facilities are not quite flywheel caliber, but I love that boutique studios are spreading. I just hope they start renting spinning shoes soon!

I vote for the makeup #2. I like the champagne colored eyeshadow, it’s very flattering and natural looking!

  2. I vote for makeup #2 and hair style of #1. You need more than normal for your wedding. I love the artificial lashes!

  4. I think number 3 might be my favorite all around. I love the way the curls are done, and think if you’re looking to pull some of it off your face, you totally could, and you’d still be rocking it. I do like that in look 1, but think the curls are a little tight – the ones in 3 are more elegant. I also like makeup 2 and 3 – and for the record, you do NOT have a unibrow. I like makeup 2 because it’s a littler different than what you usually do, but still flattering, and 3 because you look like yourself, and I love a bride that takes a “look like me but better” approach so they still look like the person we all love so madly. Also keep in mind it looks like that when it’s done, but hours later, it lightens up and you want it to last. The trials that I did that I had time to let sit on my face for a few hours were definitely a lighter look 6 hours later, and one I thought might be too much was great by the time I would actually be doing pictures and stuff on wedding day!

  5. I love make-up #2 and hair #1. I’ve taken a couple classes at the Revolution and I like it a lot. It’s nice to have a boutique spin option in the Albany area. Next time you’re in town you have to try a barre class at the Hot Yoga Spot in Albany. Such a great studio and a killer workout.

By the way – if you have any questions about event venues, etc. in Saratoga, feel free to email me. My job is right on the outskirts of the events biz upstate and I would be happy to give you some insider advice, if needed. Also some friendly tips for places to avoid like the plague if you’re getting married during track season :)

  6. What an exciting time for you, Melissa! You make a beautiful bride.

    Looks 1 + 3 are my favorites!

  7. Thanks Katie!

  8. Thanks for telling me about Hot Yoga Spot! I can’t wait to check it out! Thanks so much for the advice offer, I’ll definitely be in touch! Fortunately we are getting married in october, but there are a bunch of conferences going on in town, so it has been a little difficult to get reservations, etc.

  9. Great advice!

  10. #3 is BEAUTIFUL! So natural and pretty and elegant. Love it!!!!

  11. Love trial #2

  12. I like makeup #2. And I don’t think you have a unibrow at all however your eyebrows do look very light in both pictures. Your pictures may come out better if whoever does your makeup fills in/ darken your brows so they are a bit more defined.

  13. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is required to get setup? I’m assuming having a
blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% positive.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
