Friday Faves {7/12/18}

Happy Friday

It’s easy to lose track of days while on maternity leave, but Friday’s  still feels amazing!

Let’s start with food since I am hungry ALL.THE.TIME these days.

I am loving Ludlow Coffee Supply cold brew.  It’s right up there with La Columbe, which is insanely high praise. The staff is awesome too.

Blue Diamond Chia Seed Nut-thin Crackers — these are addictive but fairly filling.

Elise’s Candied Walnuts — I made a small batch to put in salads and they are delish!

Hal’s Mango Flavored Water – Highly recommend if you can find this limited edition flavor.

Also on the food front, it’s so nice to be able to enjoy breakfast out during the work week.  Frank has been working from home throughout “paternity leave,” but I’m already sad that he’ll be returning to the office full time next week.  It’s been nice to have adult company to at least enjoy meals with even if he is working for most of the day.

Lebanese yogurt with grapefruit, mint, honey and granola plus baguette with jam from Jack’s Wife Frieda.  Delicious.

Fitness

I definitely look forward to working out again. I can tell that I lost a lot of muscle during the last four weeks of pregnancy where I was really just doing cardio.  While it will be at least 4 more weeks before I get the all clear to do activity other than walking, here are some workout studios/plans  that I am excited to check out once it’s time to get back in action:

B MVMENT

The description ” Music guides our classes like an internal GPS – no more 8 counts or reps.  The beat blended movement forces you out of your head and INTO YOUR BODY. It is in THIS magical place that you integrate your human experience instead of escape it.  All formats incorporate elements of shaking + vibration to help release stored trauma and stimulate cellular reorganization.”

This is hot workout that seems to be all about release.  Totally different, kind of wacky, but definitely intriguing.

BRRRN – This is a workout done at cold temps! 60 degrees, 45 degrees or 30 degrees.  I actually saw it on Kelly and Ryan (which I can watch now) and it looks intense. I don’t know if I’d enjoy anything cooler than 60 degrees, but I’d like to give it a try.

PFC  – Prenatal Fitness Club. I wish I had known about this studio while I was pregnant. I found out about it the day after my due date! It has classes tailored to your pre and post-natal needs and weekly info sessions on a variety of mom-related topics. I’m excited to check out the postpartum rehab class, which allows you to gently commence your workout routine post-baby. The best part is that you can bring the baby!

Fitnessista’s Postpartum Fitness Plan – I’ve heard great things about this 12 week plan, and I’ll definitely need workouts I can do at home!

Mom Stuff

Pre-birth, I stocked up on witch hazel pads, made pad-sicles, bought numbing spray, none of which I needed since I had a c-section.  I also haven’t needed any of the  nipple creams or breastfeeding pads that I bought yet.  However, one thing I overlooked was nursing friendly clothes.  Other than the 10 nursing bra’s (I found bras to be SO UNCOMFORTABLE during pregnancy that I tested a bunch of different ones, natori brand are definitely my favorite) and 1 nursing dress I bought, I quickly realized that I was going to need many more nursing friendly clothing options.  You can make due with v-neck tees in a pinch, but I’m happy I ordered a few dresses and tops, so I can easily feed the baby without taking off my entire shirt or wearing the same outfit everyday.

Pea in the Pod is my favorite maternity wear site. I really love their pajama and robe sets, they make nightime and morning feeds so easy. I was also happy that when I finally got of a hospital gown (which I wore for almost three days due to the epidural and IV), that I had something semi-feminine, yet comfortable to wear.

I also purchased the Clip Down Cold Shoulder nursing top, the  Ripe Lift Up Nursing Dress,and a few other tops that seem to be out of stock now.

That’s all for now. Enjoy your weekend!

Friday Faves {4/6/18}

Hello Weekend!

This Friday is particularly fantastic because I’ll be in Barcelona when the post goes up!

Here are a few things I’m loving this week!

Leizl Jane’s 16 Minute HIIT Workout Ideas.  They are mostly do anywhere and also kind of obvious, but it’s a good reminder that a good workout doesn’t have to be long or involve lots of equipment.  I’ll have to do a powerwalk version for now!

New Classes at Mile High

My favorite “run club” has added a 45  minute strength class (with very small amounts of running) and I’m excited to check it out.  The running and meditation class also seems cool!

Fit-Spiration

Rachel Reaches is a really inspiring blog/journal about making changes and seeing results. I knew nothing about Beach Body before looking at her website, but I understand the appeal of working out at home yet having community support.

Fresh Mani

Mixing it up, I actually picked something with color, Ripe Guava!

Packing

I actually love packing! Almost as much as I hate unpacking!

I decided to go with my Tommy Hilfiger roller rather than my Lo and Sons bag, since I’ve found heavy bags on one side tend to bother my back. But the Lo and Sons is a great weekender bag!

Here’s what I’m bringing…

Workout and swim. I’m only bringing a few workout options since we aren’t staying in any hotels with a gym. Most of our activity will likely come from walking.

Tops, I brought a bunch of options (tanks, short and long sleeves) since it could be warm or cold, plus a couple of cardis.

Four dresses, two from Rent the Runway, one from Le Tote and one from Old Navy.  I’m most excited about the navy striped Rosie Pope! (The lighting in this room is terrible, we are changing it soon, but sorry for the dark photos!)

I’m always amazed at how much I can pack in this little suitcase, all you see above plus, 3 pairs of shoes, 2 cotton leggings, 1 pair jeans and the lulu allign tights, socks, bras, etc.

Plus some purses and jewelry! I rented the out of office “taco” bag! I’ve had the coach bag for years and never used it, but I wanted a small cross body for this trip, so I’ll try it out!

In my personal item, I’ll be bringing a few snacks, vitamins, make up, toiletries, chargers, books and a wrap.

Nom Nom Nom

While we are in Capri, I hope to eat at every place in this blog post. Yum!

Hopefully, I can share some highlights from my actual trip, not just my suitcase! Have a fabulous weekend.

Do you pack snacks for travel?

Friday Faves {3/23/18}

First snow day of the year!  Wahoo.  Since I never get to work from home, working from home at a relaxed pace was a real treat.  I wish I could always cuddle with the dog while answering emails!  Really the worst of the snow seemed to be around 11am and we never got the crazy winds that were forecast.  Pettitte never minds the snow, although salty sidewalks are another story.

Blog Love

I guess I’ll kick off my faves with a post from Theodora.  Her 10 Ways to Be Happy post is really uplifting, practical and easy to implement.

I also liked Sarah Fit’s post on planking (or not planking) while pregnant. I first heard of diastasis recti from Running Bun, then learned more from the Fitnessista and now SarahFit.  It’s definitely something that I want to avoid if possible –the thought of surgical repair seems extremely painful. Diastasis recti seems like it’s more of a concern with second/third pregnancies, but I don’t see a huge reason to do a lot of core work now.   I’ve been focusing on legs, back and arms, which are my problem areas anyway; they could use a little extra work for the next few months.

Reading

I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo recently. It was an easy read and a page turner, especially at the end.  I liked the perspective on love. In particular, I liked that it makes you think about the challenges that the LBGTQ community  faced both in the 50s and 60s, as well as today.  However, some of the plot was pretty far fetched. But overall I found it to be a very enjoyable read.

MacBook Update

Five days in, I love a lot about the MacBook.  The smaller screen doesn’t bother me, but the keyboard feels a little cramped.  The jury is still out on MacBook VS MacBook Pro.

Bump Styling

As I was poking around on youtube last night, I found a few videos on styling the bump that gave me some inspiration for repurposing pieces I already own.

The first is from Rachhloves, who is a youtuber I follow actively.  She also has a lot great pregnancy/baby videos on her RachhLovesLife channel.

While I was watching this one, youtube kindly recommended another video from Alexandrea Graza, which I found pretty helpful. I actually immediately went out and bought the Lululemon Align II pants.  It’s been years since I’ve been in lulu. The pants are comfortable, but my old navy leggings were $10 and these were $98, I’m not sure they are 10x as comfortable! That said, my lulu stuff does last forever, so I should be able to wear them well after pregnancy as well.

Weekend Plans

My sister gets into town tomorrow night, so I’m excited to hang with her.  We have tickets to Bitch Sesh on Saturday, which should be pretty funny for this real housewives of everywhere fan!

That’s all for this week! Hope you have a great weekend.

Friday Faves {3/16/18}

It’s Friday!  Woot Woot.

I’m excited to share my faves this week! Let me know yours as well! What are you most excited about for the weekend?

Birthday Freebies!

My birthday was yesterday, so I took advantage of as many birthday freebie opportunities as I could!  I started off with a free birthday drink at Starbucks. If you don’t have the app, it’s worth the download for the birthday drink and all the reward points you earn with every purchase. Once you have 125 points, you can get a free item of choice, and there’s no restrictions, so you can go crazy dreaming up the largest, fanciest concoction available.

I treated myself to lunch at Forager’s at the Dekalb Market in Brooklyn.  There are so many great food stalls and restaurants, it was hard to know what to pick.  Forager’s is sort of like the Dig Inn, you pick a protein and three local sides.  I had chicken, cauliflower rice, roasted brussels and zatar spiced carrots! Yum, so much flavor.

On my way back to the office, I  picked up my free birthday gift at Sephora. I just realized they gave me the wrong one, oh well!

I also used my free birthday class at Uplift! I took the express class and it was awesome. Katie, the instructor was amazing about providing modifications clearly, yet discretely.  I love Uplift, I need to go back more often.

Dinner Out

We went to Carbone for dinner, and it did not disappoint. Honestly, I was annoyed that even making a reservation 30 days out, we could only get a 9:45pm reservation, but all was forgiven the second we walked in the door to a warm greeting and a quick seating. It’s a super old school place, but it had some of the freshest italian food I’ve ever had.  The mozzarella was served warm and literally melted in my mouth. Sorry for not taking any pics.

New Mac

I’ve been using my 2010 Macbook Air and it’s been limping along for quite a while to put things politely.  I decided that I’d get myself a new computer for my birthday since it seemed like the appropriate time for a splurge. I debated between the Macbook Pro and the Macbook for quite a while, reading a bunch of reviews and comparisons. I ultimately decided to go with the MacBook with the max power and memory available.  I don’t watch movies on my computer and I don’t do much video editing,  but I upload a fair amount of photos, so hopefully this was the right call. I’m a little nervous about the small screen, but love how light it is…and the gold color. I have 11 days to decide for sure! Anyone love or hate their macbook?

Lo and Sons Catalina Deluxe

This “weekender” bag showed up on my facebook feed and I casually clicked on the link. I then proceeded to watch all their videos and read tons of reviews. Within a few days, I was convinced the  Catalina Deluxe Small was the perfect travel bag for me.  It’s quite large, yet offers a ton of organization, unlike my Longchamp bag. My parents got it for me as a birthday gift and I can’t wait to bring it on our trip next month. My favorite features are the separate shoe/toiletry compartment and it’s ability to slide over the handles of your roller.  Can I pack for a week in this?  We’ll find out!

Resting Barre Face

I ordered this shirt (similar) a while back and it finally came. I know what I’m wearing to xtend barre next week.

Does Your Dog Sleep in Your Bed?

I liked this NYTimes article.  The cover photo looks just like my dog-so happy to be in the bed! We’ve definitely gotten too lax about him in the bed, and our sleep quality definitely suffers when he does.

Nursery Color

We swatched four paint colors over the weekend…and I’m not sure that I love any of them.

From left to right (bottom row is with primer): Benjamin Moore Ballet Slippers, Vintage Taupe, Gray Tint and Seapearl. Also the first picture in the morning and the second is in the evening.

I was leaning toward Ballet Slippers, but I’m worried about too much biege.  I wish the Vintage Taupe had a hint more pink, it just looks bright white to me.  Ultimately, I may go with Seapearl since most of my nursery pins are of soothing, but not stark white walls.  Because I’m insane, I’m going to swatch one more color, just to be sure.

Mrs. Meyer’s Basil Scent

For year’s I’ve been all about the geranium and lemon verbana scents, but I heard Sherry from Young House Love rave about the basil scent recently…and she was right! It’s great. I have basil in the kitchen and lemon in the bathroom.

March Madness

Frank and I have the tradition of going out to dinner and watching the NCAA games the first friday of the Tournament.  I won the pool I entered last year, so I have to defend my title. I will say, I did not expect Buffalo to destroy Arizona last night.  As an upstater, I can’t be mad at it, despite it throwing off my bracket.

NYC Half

If you are running the NYC Half this weekend, good luck! I’ll be cheering just after the mile 4 water stop. 🙂

Friday Faves {3/2/18}

The first Friday of March! I’ve always loved March because it’s my birthday month, even if the weather is still pretty cold and dreary. Enter bomb cyclone noreaster!  At least we’ve got March Madness to look forward to!

There’s a bunch of random things I’ve been loving this week, starting with…

Reusable Food Bags – so random, but I’ve been seeing them around and finally ordered a set of four from amazon.  I’ve been mainly using them for storing vegetables, like baby carrots and snap peas once I open the original plastic bag.  I’ve also seen a lot of suggestions to use these to prep smoothie packs for the freezer.  Hopefully, they’ll allow me to cut down on my plastic baggie usage!

HQ – Is anyone else playing this app-based trivia game?  My sister introduced me to it over Christmas and I’ve been playing it several nights a week ever since.  I’ve never won, but it’s still fun. Basically, it comes on a 9pm (and 3pm for really hard core folks) and you have 10 seconds to correctly answer 12 questions.  They start super easy and then get more challenging. There always some really random questions in there – if you took latin in high school, you’ll probably do well. Anyways, the prize pot is pretty small, so the winners sometimes get like $5, but if you like trivia, check it out! Just a warning, the hosts are a little annoying, but they do grow on you.

Our Coravin – We are obsessed with our Coravin. I’m not really using it right now, per se, but it’s still my favorite gadget of the moment. If you haven’t heard of these, they let you pour a glass of wine without opening tay, he bottle!  You don’t even need to remove the cork. Basically, a small needle is inserted into the bottle, and as you pour argon gas is released into the bottle pressurizing the wine/bottle.  The cork itself reseals in minutes.  This is clutch in so many situations: you only want a glass of wine, but don’t want to open the bottle.  You want white to start and red to finish, but don’t want to open two bottles.  You need a glass for a recipe. Your partner’s pregnant, but you aren’t drinking for two.  You don’t want to open a nice bottle of wine that you might not finish. Clearly we are fans, even if I really haven’t got to use it for myself yet. I got ours for 50% off on black friday, so they do go on sale.

Omega’s for Dogs.  My omega obsession is clearly out of control! I’ve even started giving Pettitte a daily fatty acid boost with the Protect Paws Omega 3-6-9.  I’m hoping these help with his allergies and paw chewing, it would be great if they also allow us to cut down on how often he has to get allergy shots.  But the reason I’m actually mentioning this is because when you purchase any product I Heart Dogs website, they donate meals to dogs in shelters. I bought the omega supplements and dental chews and my purchase feed 21 dogs in shelters.

Google TripsI’m not sure if I’m loving this yet, but I’m giving it a try.  A few weeks ago our cruise plans went abruptly awry.  I had to completely start over planning a new trip over the last couple weeks and there is a lot going on with flights and multiple hotel changes.  While waiting for the train this morning, I download the app and entered our four flights, four hotels and dinner reservations. Some of them came up based on info in my email, other things I had to add manually, but getting everything in took about 5 minutes total.  The thing I like already is that the app links reservations to the emails in my inbox for quick reference.

The other features seem to be for finding activities and restaurants while your on the trip, which could be cool.  In the past, I’ve used an app called tripcase, but I like how this allows me to further indulge my google obsession.  Has anyone else used this?

I saw this trinket plate in the gift shop on our babymoon. I kind of regret not buying it because it really struck a cord with me.  (I also love a good trinket plate.)  Sometimes I feel like I’m not in touch with passion and I don’t have a good roadmap of where I want to go. The interview or job question I hate the most is where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years.  Hate it!

Ali on the Run’s Podcast Episode 57 really made me stop and think. I listened to it all the way through, twice.  She really articulated everything I’ve been feeling career-wise.  On one hand, I’m happy and content, I enjoy my day to day, I have good life balance and good benefits. On the other hand, I’m not always sure this is what I’m meant to be doing.  After I graduated college, I read a book titled, Should I Do What I Love or Do What I Do, so I Can Do What I Love on the Side.  At the time, I was trying to get an editorial assistant job at a magazine. I’d had 5 great internships and had been able to do some freelance pieces at a few of my favorite magazines, I even got an interview for my absolute dream job at Self.  I didn’t get the job and after a few more months of fruitless interviewing, I took a job at a non-profit organization I believed strongly in.  I had been working 7 days a week at 5 different jobs for about 6 months at the time, and I needed some financial stability. I told myself I’d continue to freelance, which I did…for a while. I also started this blog around that time. Anyways, almost 12 years later, I don’t know whether I’ve ever answered the question the book title asks.  In any case, I really appreciated Ali’s honesty and totally related to every last bit of it. I’m not afraid of failure, I’ve failed before.  But I am afraid of others knowing I failed, which may be at the heart of my problem.  At this point, I plan to stay at my job for a while, it’s fairly new and I really like it. I just want to start taking some time to make sure when it’s time to make the next step, I take the right one.

Whew! I think I should end there!

Whether your weekend is packed with activities or you have nothing on the docket, I hope you enjoy it!

Friday Faves {2/16/18}

Last week, I didn’t have enough to say for a whole Friday Faves post, but this week, I have a ton of random things to chatter on about.

Lip Service

All winter I’ve had the worst chapped, peeling, cracked lips.  Nothing I’ve tried has helped at all.  Then I remembered I had this tiny sample of Kiehls #1 Lip Balm in my vanity. This stuff is magic.  My lips were 90% better the next day.

This quote.

Currently Reading

I’m simultaneously reading a bunch of books right now, but I think I’ll finish this one over the long weekend.

Good Vibrations

I received this little SoundBot wireless speaker for Christmas.  I think it’s really for the shower, but I brought it to work.  I forgot how happy it makes me to listen to music during the day. I typically listen for a few hours while doing administrative work, and it really adds some pep to my work day.  They are only $15 on amazon, if you’re in the market.

Dry Brushing

I don’t think I ever mentioned it, but I’ve become big fan of dry brushing.  I’ve only been doing it regularly for a few months, but I think I’m starting to see a  difference in the amount of cellulite on the back of my legs.  I just brush my calves, thighs and bum in an upwards circular motion for a few minutes before hopping in the shower. I do suggest doing this on days you don’t shave and using a moisturizer or body oil after.

Valentine’s Day

Last night Frank and I decided to cook in rather than go out.  We got a little carried away with our menu, which included surf and turf, kale sourdough panzanella salad, brussels sprouts and mac and cheese.  After 2+ hours of cooking and all the dishes afterwards, I was beginning to think fancy pre-fixe menus weren’t so overrated after all.  But it was a delicious dinner and we got to share the night with our furry valentine.

Maternity Haul!

I finally got a chance to go to Seraphine. I stocked up on two sweaters (which I love) and my first pair of maternity jeans! Buttoning and unbuttoning jeans always seemed like a non-issue until I realized the joys of an elastic waistband! I also ordered the Bump Kit, which includes a skirt, leggings, a wrap dress, and a top. The online reviews were right, the quality is not as high as it is with the items you order individually.  I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of the wrap dress, but I’m not sure I’ll ever wear the skirt.  I’m also waiting for this dress, which apparently Kate Middleton was a fan of, but it seems to be back ordered.

This weekend we’re off for our babymoon at the Lodge at Woodloch.  Snowshoeing wasn’t what I expected for a babymoon, but I’m really excited to get away.

Have you tried dry brushing?

Friday Faves {2/2/18}

Happy Friday.

Everyone has to have goals in life and mine might be Pizza, Beach, Sleep, Repeat.  Sounds pretty glorious, right?

I’m feeling a million times better than last week and so much more positive.

Here are a few things I’m loving this week:

Spring cleaning!  It seems like everyone is cleaning out their closets these days.  We cleaned out 3 of our 4 over the weekend and it feels great to open a closet and actually have some empty space on the shelves. I’m not very sentimental and I try to be conscious of not bringing things into the house unless we have room to give them a home.  We managed to clear out a few things we just don’t use or are not longer in good shape, like lots of old towels and sheets!

My general organization mantras are everything must have a place and for every item in, an item must go out. I definitely have some work to do in our kitchen, I just love kitchen tools and gadgets and need to get rid of things that are in the cupboard just in case.  Number of times I’ve pressed homemade tortillas: 0.

Dog Training

Pettitte finished a series of training this week.  At first I wasn’t sure it would be worth it, but by the last few lessons, he was really starting to master some of the skills, like laying down on his bed and staying when people come to the door.  We are still working on come, leave it and focused leash walking, but it was a good reminder that training isn’t just for puppies!

Superbowl Party

We are hosting a party for the “big game” this year.  I’m excited to make some things I’ve seen on Tasty, including these taco cups and chicken parmesan sliders.

Prego Stuff

I’m 20 weeks today! I can’t believe I’m already halfway.  Weeks 18 and 19 both involved unexpected doctors visits, but everything is fine now! I’ll share more in my next pregnancy update. I learned that it’s always worth calling your doctor if something feels off.

Week 20 will involve a very planned and highly anticipated appointment, the full anatomy scan!  We may find out the sex of the baby.  The anatomy scan is done in the hospital, then we go meet with my doctor at his office and then we are going back to the hospital for a Ready, Set, Baby tour.  It’s going to be a long day!

Edited to add: Just got this email and 20 Weeks is for sure my favorite baby size to date:

Pajamas Pants

I am loving my vineyard vines pajama pants. When I ordered the set on clearance last week, I didn’t realize they were christmas themed.  But they are so comfy, I’ll probably wear them all year round.  Seen here paired with my easter egg socks.

TV

I’m really enjoying this season of Top Chef Colorado.  It’s a relatively drama free season and for the most part, people seem to get along and respect one another.  The focus is definitely on the food!

I’m also watching the Assassination of Gianni Versace, which is good, albeit very scary so far.

Finally, I’m halfway through season 2 of This is Us.  I hope to eventually be up to date, so I don’t have to avoid spoilers!

Also, here is my OFT’s February calendar for my Orange Theory friends.

That’s it for now.  Tonight we are checking out Freek’s Mill with some friends.  Saturday will involve a hair cut, shopping, cleaning and superbowl prep. Naturally, Sunday will involve lots of food, commercials, and hopefully a great halftime show.  I’m not particularly excited for the team match up, but I’ll try to be supportive of my NE/Philly friends!

Friday Faves {1/26/18}

After feeling under the weather for a full week, my cold has significantly subsided.  So that’s one for the faves.  Unfortunately, I woke up with a migraine, so this may not be my most positive post.  I decided to skip Orange Theory due to said migraine, super bummed that I missed the tornado class I’ve been looking forward to for weeks.

In more positive news:

Gena’s Book Launch Party – This week I got to attend the launch party for Power Plates!  Not surprisingly, the book is getting lots of praise.  Keri Glassman named it one of the top 7 health books for 2018. You can also read a great review here from Books for Better Living. I do have some brilliant friends!  Congrats, Gena. 🙂

Airpods

Frank got me a pair of airpods for Christmas and I’ve been loving them so far. I still think they look weird, but the sound quality is good and the battery life is way better than I anticipated. Note: I hate charging things! I also like that sounds pauses if you take them out of your ear.  I’m not sure if I would run with them, I’m afraid to lose them as it is, but so far so good.

Game Night – our friends are hosting a game night this weekend. I love games and it’s been years since I’ve been to a game night.  We are playing a game called Obamalama.  I don’t know anything about it, but I’m ready for some good old fashion fun!

Taim

I love falafel. My old job was near so many falafel places (chickpea, maoz, hummus and pita co.). I haven’t found many falafel places in Brooklyn Heights, so I’ve decided to make a pilgrimage to Taim this weekend to enjoy some of the very best.  So excited. Is it weird to think about meals days in advance?

Well, this has been pretty mundane. I hope you have fun weekend plans 🙂

Friday Faves {1/19/18}

Last weekend, I had almost every minute planned, saw lots of  friends, enjoyed nice dinners out, this weekend I have far fewer plans, but I’m excited to see what happens.  My one plan is to see The Waitress on Broadway, which is currently starring Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles.

Looking back at the week, here’s what I enjoyed:

Downtown Abbey – my parents and sister came into town see the exhibit on Saturday morning, so I joined them.  I hadn’t seen the show, but really enjoyed the exhibit, despite a few plot spoilers!  Over the weekend, I downloaded the first episode and got totally hooked. I’m not surprised, I love historical anything. Definitely binge-worthy and I don’t use that saying lightly at all.

Classpass Videos – If you are on classpass, have you checked out the videos on the app? I just discovered them and so far, I think they are very good!  They even have videos from some of my favorite studios, including Uplift and Xtend.  I feel like I am always preaching about Classpass, but I think it has gotten better and better over the last year or so. Plus, now for $75, I basically have access to unlimited workouts if you count the videos.

Books – Definitely want to read more in 2018, here is what I’m currently reading or have on deck:Power Plates by the one and only Gena Hamshaw!  I’ve been pouring through the gorgeous one bowl entrees, such beautiful, nourishing recipes.

The Whole 9 Months – I just got this one today, a little late 4 months in, but I’m really interested in prenatal nutrition and nutrition for babies and toddlers, so I’m excited to learn more.

Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – I haven’t started this, but I’ve seen it on so many blogs that I’m excited to see what the fuss is about!

Grit – I’m in the middle of this book and it’s really interesting and inspiring. It’s based on the author’s theory that skill plus effort equals achievement.  Effort is worth twice as much as innate talent or intelligence. Passion also plays a role too. Definitely worth picking up!

Side Hustle – this book was a gift and I haven’t even glanced through it, but it has great reviews on amazon.

Expecting Better – Okay, I read this in 2017, but can’t recommend it enough.  It’s nice to have data and research guiding pregnancy advice rather than blanket statements from the CDC that tend to just provide the most conservative view. Definitely the best pregnancy book I read hands down.

Bringing Up Bebe– I enjoyed this quick read. It’s funny, yet well researched and relatable. Is anyone out there a believer in the “pause?”

Green Goddess Avocado Sauce – I’ve made four recipes from the lastest issue of cooking light, but this one is definitely the best. It’s so rich, yet citrusy. It’s a dressing, a dip and a sauce all in one.

Skin care – I received a bunch of Beauty Counter and Elemis products for Christmas, I’m having fun testing them out.

Countermatch Recovery Sleep Cream + Discovery Set

Unforunately, the gift set I bought is no longer available and the prices are much higher individually, but I did link them below:

I did a quick haul video to give my very first impression of the products. I’ll try to do a full review later! I definitely need to learn to edit and stop saying um so much!

Friday Faves {12/1}

Happy Friday.

I really don’t need anything more than the fact that it is Friday, after two short weeks, a full work week seems long!

What am I loving this week?

Blanket Scarves

I wrap myself in this one from JCrew factory (60% off) and I am comfy cozy at work, almost as if I was at home on the couch.  Very helpful for chilly offices.  I also have a cape, which serves the same purpose.

If  you are on classpass, you know this, but now instead of a certain number of classes per month on classpass, you have credits.  I really like this change because it makes things even more flexible and eliminates the studio limits per month.  I have a 45 credit plan, so I can take approximately 5 nine credit classes per month or after I’ve used two classes at a studio, I can go again for additional credits.  For example, I always max out my two classes per month at Mile High, so if I want to take a third class there I’ll need to use 12 credits instead of 9.  I could offset this by going to a lower credit class or gym session.

I’m also considering adding the Blink membership to my Classpass.  For $15 a month, it gives you access to all Blinks in the area.  This is great because the Blink closest to my apartment is $25 a month.

I’m still going strong with my four class per month Orange Theory membership, as well.  It’s expensive, but I’ve found that I’ve been feeling a lot stronger on my outdoor runs since starting OTF.  The fact that my last 5 classes have been endurance (30 minutes of running) is probably a factor as well.

Chef’s Club

We tried Chef’s Club for dinner last night.  The concept is really cool, the restaurant features rotating chef’s, so it’s always changing.  Currently Chef JJ Johnson, a James Beard for Rising Star Chef of the Year in 2015, is doing the first long term residency. The space is gorgeous and the Afro-Asian menu had so many delicious sounding options that it made it hard to decide what to order.

Udon Noodles

Roti with dips – my favorite dish of the night

ConCon sticky rice with eggplant curry

Tamarind chicken with braised collards

We really enjoyed our experience and are excited to check it out again when the chefs rotate.

Finishing Up Holiday Shopping Early

I’m almost done with holiday shopping –and it feels great.  It helps that my family did Elfster for adults, so I only have to buy 1 gift rather than 8, but still.  Now I just need to commit to stop buying things, I have a tendency to keep picking up things even after I say I’m done.

Speaking of gifts, I liked this article on the Art of the the Gift Basket. I love making gift baskets for showers, but have never done it for a holiday gift.
